Developing good connections between home, school, and community is an on-going process that takes time, organization, and effort. The National Network of Partnership Schools offers a research-based framework and strategies that enable all schools, districts, and states to organize productive school-family-community partnerships to help students succeed. Established by researchers led by Joyce Epstein at Johns Hopkins University in 1996, the partnership seeks to help schools strengthen their programs by addressing six types of involvement and by using an Action Team approach.
Practical Parenting Partnerships Center is delighted to offer schools the training developed through the National Network of Partnership Schools. After the training, schools may decide to join the network as a Partnership School. The requirements are as follows:
- Create an Action Team for Partnerships
- Use the framework of six types of involvement to plan and implement a program of partnerships
- Allocate an annual budget for the work and activities of the school’s Action Team.
- Allocate at least one hour per month for the Action Team to plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities each year.
- Complete an annual UPDATE survey to renew membership in the network
