What is Practical Parenting Partnerships?
Practical Parenting Partnerships is a training and resource center. PPP exists to help schools, parents, and community members work together for children's growth and development- especially success in school. To this end, PPP offers professional development in the form of training and workshops, provides resources, and hosts an annual conference to help school personnel, families and the larger community.
How long has Practical Parenting Partnerships been around?
PPP began in 1992 as a cooperative effort of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Danforth Foundation.
Where is Practical Parenting Partnerships located?
The PPP Center is in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Who participates in Practical Parenting Partnerships?
Schools (PreK-12) become PPP sites by sending teachers, administrators and parents to PPP training. Also, other community agencies and individuals attend PPP training or benefit from PPP resource information.
How many schools are Practical Parenting Partnerships sites?
Over 400 school buildings in Missouri, plus schools and agencies in 9 other states and Canada.
What professional development training does Practical Parenting Partnerships offer?
Our three most popular trainings are:
- Implementation Training- a foundation for building a parent involvement program.
- Home Visit Training - the basics of starting and maintaining a successful home-visit program.
- In the Classroom Training - teaches classroom teachers positive way to involve their student's families.
Practical Parenting Partnerships also offers professional development workshops?
More than a dozen different workshops on topics such as improving student achievement, reaching hard to reach parents, and effective reading practices.
What are some of Practical Parenting Partnerships resources?
Each training includes curriculum notebooks and materials for participants to use in their programs. The PPP Center houses thousands of resources. PPP sends out a monthly newsletter to support those who have received training. PPP produces and disseminates specialized publications - often geared for parents- on topics such as testing or reading issues.

PPP also sponsors the Family Festival, a conference of over 600 attendees eager to learn ways to work together. Recently, PPP sponsored a Brain Research Seminar featuring three prominent neuroscientists and is planning a follow-up seminar.
