Children learn to read through a mixture of learning opportunities both at school and home. Children become strong readers the same way. How can teachers build reading skills through instructional strategies as well as promote reading in the homes of their students? Parents are role models for their children and they can provide an environment that gives children opportunities to learn and practice reading. Parents can make reading fun and a special time in the home. Schools can encourage and support families in these efforts.
