2001 VIP Awards

Patty Bailey   -   Clark-Vitt Elementary, Union RXI

Ms. Bailey has been involved with Practical Parenting Partnerships since its inception at Clark Vitt Elementary. Serving on the board and with direct service during meetings, Ms. Bailey's personal philosophy is that school, home and community must work together to fulfill the goal of children reaching their personal best. She has worked all facets of the program. For example, she coordinated child care services for children five years and younger so families were able to spend time with their school age children during evening meetings. She budgeted and prepared family style meals to provide parents a stress-free evening. She promoted parent involvement through PPP to local businesses and actively gathered attendance prizes that have promoted area businesses. Throughout her involvement with PPP Ms. Bailey has preferred to quietly provide support and assistance where needed without need for personal recognition. The PPP board feels Ms. Patty Bailey epitomizes true leadership qualities and dedication that have made the Clark Vitt Elementary PPP flourish.

Cheryl Beasley   -   Branson Kindergarten Center, Branson R-IV

Cheryl Beasley is an asset to the success of the PPP program at Branson. Twice a month, Cheryl picks up Muffins and Donuts at 6:15 a.m. for the Muffins for Mom - Donuts for Dad breakfast. Cheryl has attended every PPP advisory meeting this year. She takes minutes at the meetings, retypes them and makes sure everyone receives a copy. Cheryl also coordinates the resource center. She checks the books, games and videos in and out. She also calls parents to remind them when books are overdue. Most of all, Cheryl Beasley does everything with such enthusiasm that everyone around her becomes excited!

Carolyn Clark   -   Lincoln Elementary School, Normandy School District

Mrs. Carolyn Clark exemplifies leadership qualities. She is a self-starter, motivator, and a risk-taker. She is an excellent PPP facilitator and shares her knowledge with others freely. She willingly and tirelessly advocates for the families of Lincoln Elementary, is highly respected and is a nurturer of all. She has set up a Parent Resource Center in her office that is welcoming to both parents and staff and where she provides literature on a variety of topics. She has provided Leadership Development training for PTO officers and parents, parent workshops, and two very successful "100 Man Luncheons". She is presently seeking an outside sponsor for this year's luncheon. She has also helped families seeking assistance with food, clothing, and utility bills. Carolyn Clark is indeed appreciated by Lincoln Elementary!

Dr. Fields totally believes in PPP and has a steadfast and irrefutable belief that Center Elementary will make a positive difference for families and in the education of students. Barb Fields is definitely the driving force behind the PPP program at this school and the school salutes her as a PPP VIP.

Barb Flesh and Candy Perris   -   Cruise Elementary, Kingston K-14

Mrs. Barb Flesh is a very special lady. She is the social worker at Cruse elementary School. Adults admire her and the kids think she is funny and always very helpful. She has been a big part of the parent involvement program. Her advice to parents and students is always something we can keep under our hats for a lifetime. Cruise Elementary just can't say enough wonderful things about Barb Flesh. She is truly one of the great ones! As the Parent Involvement Coordinator at Kingston, Candy Perris works so hard to make the parents feel welcomed and needed that her school has nominated her for the PPP VIP award for the third year. One co-worker described her as an "angel". Candy organizes about 30 parent volunteers. She helps plan evening activities with the teachers for parents and children each month; and she has set up a lending library in the Primary and Elementary buildings for parents. Linda Hinds, Eugene Field's secretary, has been instrumental in establishing and maintaining our monthly PPP programs. Linda definitely goes above and beyond her job responsibilities for the good of students. Since the PPP grants expired several years ago, she has sought and received donations from many community businesses in order to cover the costs of our monthly PPP family meals and supplies needed for programs. Linda has planned the menus and helped serve the monthly meals. Additionally, she has compiled and typed the monthly brochures to be distributed to the parents. Linda has spear-headed many of the major components of the school's PPP program since its inception; but, alas, all good things must come to an end. They have established, energized, and promoted PPP through their leadership and dedication by donating many hours to the establishment of a parent resource room, family fun nights, parent information evenings, and educational small groups with teachers. Probably their greatest contribution is their willingness to do anything to make PPP successful. Administrator PPP VIP's

LorraineHorner   -   Principal, Butler Elementary School, Butler R-V

Mrs. Lorraine Horner has demonstrated strong leadership in bringing Practical Parenting Partnerships to Butler Elementary. Without her exciting and positive attitude concerning the importance of this program, the staff feels they would not have been successful in attaining a PPP grant for two years or in PPP becoming a central part of their school. Because of her persistence and commitment, PPP has become a foundational program that exhibits continual growth for Butler Elementary. The PPP Director, Debra Nordyke, says if she had to choose Mrs. Horner's most beloved characteristic, it would be her attribute of "servant leadership." With every activity, workshop or event, she is there early, late and beyond, preparing for all the family events. She steps right in and does the most menial of tasks to the most prestigious one. Her motivation is not for the spotlight or public attention; but her motivation beats from a heart that truly loves children and wants to make a difference in their lives and in their families.
