Planning and Providing Parent Involvement Opportunities at School

The Branson Kindergarten Center hosted a “100 Man Lunch” during the week of the 100th day of school.  This year, 242 men attended-including fathers, grandfathers, other relatives, and community members-providing a great opportunity for family and community to have a positive involvement with the school and its students.

Building School-Community Partnerships

This year, Plato R-V has added two partners to boost their school-community relationships.  The 701st Military Detachment has helped by fixing up play areas and reading to the students.  The International Student Detachment from Ft. Leonard Wood comes to the school twice yearly to share their cultures with the students.

Communicating to Parents About Content and Performance Standards and Assessments

Smithton Elementary involves parents in the process of achievement testing in an interesting and fun way.  They host a progressive dinner for parents, alternating each course of the meal with sharing MAP information and ideas for promoting Communication Arts and Mathematics.

Combining Strengths Across the Dimensions

Wilder Elementary of Mansfield R-IV School District gives all school families a voice.  Welcome packets are given to registering families including information about school programs and PPP.  On Back to School Night, parents meet their child’s teacher and fill out necessary papers, including learning compacts and interest surveys.  The topics chosen on the surveys are addressed during the school year at parent or family nights.  Families are also introduced to the Parent Resource Center, where they can access numerous checkout and free materials.  Parents are encouraged to attend Grade Level Nights and conferences, where they meet with the teachers and discuss student progress and expectations for the year.  Parents are given opportunities to serve on school committees and advisory boards as well.  The Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum continues to work with Wilder Elementary by providing free tours to the students, and encourages reading by recognizing readers of the Little House books with a photo in the local paper and set of books for their home libraries.  Wilder Elementary works hard to promote the partnership among school, family, and community.
