2008 PPP VIP Award Winners
March 05, 2008
The Branson Kindergarten Center is blessed to have Connie Morrill. Her coworkers have witnessed her dedication to the children and families. Connie began participating in Practical Partnerships several years ago, and since that time she has implemented numerous activities to encourage parental involvement in their children’s learning with the school. This year, Connie started a new program to get fathers involved, and every morning dads come in to help with breakfast. Connie is a true representative of what Practical Parenting Partnerships is all about--building a team with the parents and schools in the community. We at PPP are happy to present Connie Morrill with the PPP VIP Award!
The Special PPP VIP awards are presented to individuals in appreciation of their dedication and service to PPP. The Center Staff would like to recognize the following outstanding leaders and Special VIP’s of PPP:
Dyna Dorrsom, Johnson County Literacy Coordinator, PPP Trainer, Warrensburg
Dyna Dorrsom first attended PPP training while serving as PAT Educator for Leeton School District. She has been a PPP trainer since 2002. Dyna shares with participants her passion for home visiting, her experiences as a mother, as a classroom teacher and as an adult education teacher. She always goes the extra mile in preparing for training, staff development and family night workshops.
Darlene Robinett, Founding Director, Practical Parenting Partnerships, Jefferson City
Darlene was hired in 1990 by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to work with Vicki Ehlers to create a K-12 parent involvement / parent education framework. The result was Practical Parenting Partnerships. Twenty-one pilot schools were trained in 1992 in PPP Implementation Training. With Darlene’s leadership PPP now works with about 300 school districts in Missouri with an additional 100 districts in 12 other states and Canada. PPP offers seven training topics, numerous professional development workshops, many publications for parents, a monthly newsletter and Family Festival. While Darlene will continue to serve on the advisory board, write the newsletter lead article and parent page, and make site visits, we will miss her day to day leadership. We wish her the best in retirement. At the 2009 Family Festival we will present the first annual Founders Award to a PPP school in honor of Darlene and her vision, innovation, leadership and passion for parent involvement.
