1997 VIP Awards
Kathy Austin - Mountain Grove R-III School District
Kathy is Director of Special Programs and has always taken an active role in the Title I program and backed their PPP endeavors. Her staff believes that without the support of the administration, a program such as PPP would be ineffective.
Rita Bevard - Fulton Public Schools, Bush Elementary
Rita coordinates the PPP resource library and parent phone line, as well as the budget. Her enthusiasm and belief in welcoming families are apparent.
Jackie Frisbie - Parkway C-2 Schools, Mason Ridge Elementary
Dr. Frisbee epitomizes the best characteristics of the PPP program at Mason Ridge Elementary School: communication and energy. Jackie communicates well with the entire school community and energizes all. According to the PTO president, "She's terrific!"
Sue Jones - Windsor C-1 Schools, Windsor Elementary
Sue has been tireless in her efforts to start and expand a very successful PPP program.
Carol Parmenter - Vernon County
Carol is a 4-H Youth Development Specialist. She has been instrumental in three school districts in Vernon County implementing PPP programs. She works with schools and even shares information about PPP over radio broadcasts!
Melissa Smith - Riverview Gardens, Koch Elementary
Melissa began their PPP program and worked to make it district-wide. Her colleagues stated, "She continues to work to improve the skills of parents and improve the quality of life for our students. She has exceeded all expectations."
Yvonne Ray - Normandy School District, Washington Elementary
Yvonne Ray is responsible for organizing the PTO at this school. Her active recruitment of parents and other caring adults caused Washington's parents and staff to unite in order to address discipline concerns within the school. She works closely with Title I staff, the parent liaison and PTO president, as she coordinates building parent involvement activities and helps to identify community resources for parents. Mrs. Ray was selected as one of the building representatives for the school's partnership with Washington University's John Olin School of Business that served as the catalyst for Washington Elementary to be designated a "Total Quality School". As a PPP workshop leader, Mrs. Ray boasts outstanding attendance figures!
Tina Wright - Potosi R-3 Schools, Potosi Elementary
Tina "has done a great job" according to her colleagues. She has taken the responsibility for this school's PPP morning coffees and also has managed the publicity for all the night meetings.
Karen Yenigues - Windsor C-I School District, James E. Freer Elementary
Karen organizes PPP at James E. Freer. According to a colleague, "Because of her belief in the importance of this program, Karen uses her endless energy and organizational skills to make our PPP meetings most enjoyable and beneficial to parents and students."
SPECIAL PPP VIP AWARD - Rosalee Johnson, Normandy School District
Rosalee Johnson personifies the philosophy of Practical Parenting Partnerships. She is one of the original PPP Trainers, serves on the PPP Advisory Board, and coordinates all the PPP efforts in the Normandy Schools. Rosalee has personally promoted PPP throughout the St. Louis area, bringing new people aboard and encouraging their continued efforts. Her conviction to bring families and schools together for the benefit of all children shines through all she says and does. One of her staff wrote, "Mrs. Johnson has been a light unto my path. She is sincere and very outgoing. We love her!"
